DLBA Helps Provide New Homes for Delray Residents Impacted by Bridge

The Detroit Land Bank Authority (DLBA) is making homes available to residents who wish to leave Delray, as construction ramps up on the Gordie Howe International Bridge. As part of the Bridging Neighborhoods Program (BNP), the DLBA helps identify neighborhoods of interest, source available houses from our inventory, and coordinate vendor services for property clean-up and renovation.

Participants sign a deed-for-deed swap, and when their new home is ready six to nine months later, the DLBA transfers the deed. Bridging Neighborhoods offers Detroiters a chance to leave an area that is known for heavy traffic and pollution, without having to fund the move themselves. The first round of participants received the keys to their new homes in December. The program is part of an agreement between the state of Michigan, the city of Detroit, and the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority, with a goal of relocating more than 200 Delray residents.
